Brand new for 2005 RRD Kiteboarding announced the arrival of the new TYPE SIX kite! This is the kite that Martin Vari and David Tyburski are flying now in competitions all over the world. Our designer, Simone Vannuci has been working on Kauai over the last year on this project. With the help of two of the best riders in the world, Martin and David, Simo has sent this one out of the park.
The Type Six is a "moderate aspect ratio" kite with five extremely small diameter struts, a reduced diameter leading edge tube, and ultra light weight carbon wing-tip battens. All sizes of the Type 6 have one zipper over the center strut only. The range of the single zipper adjustment is tuned for each kite size. This makes the zipper concept simple and helps to keep the weight of the kites' super low. Our new factory has raised the standards of what is acceptable as far as seam tolerances, weight, consistency, and canopy cleanliness while under load.
The Type 6 is the quickest turning kite our team riders have ever flown, of all brands, and also delivers smooth usable power from any location in the window. The up-wind ability of this kite is phenomenal. Line up next to anyone on the water and watch them disappear downwind. This is important for kiters of all abilities as struggling to stay upwind can ruin an otherwise great session. The development of unhooked maneuvers, fast turning kite loops has brought a new development in our kite designs. Combining those three main feature in a very forgiving kite has allowed the range of use the Type 6 to become unmatched in any of our kites from the past.
